*APRIL 13th & 14th FRI & SAT ~ SHE HANGS BRIGHTLY ~  She Hangs Brightly was born within the musty, crumbling walls of ‘the stone room’ (the rehearsal space in the basement of a century old farmhouse) on a cold night in January, 2016 in Vernon, BC. Appropriate beginnings for a band heavy with mood and a distinct sound of west coast psychedelia.

The band was started as a collaborative writing project between singer Eryn Kleyh and guitarist Dean Gordon-Smith (formerly of Redfish). Progress was steady but slow. Drummer Ken McGregor, a friend of Gordon-Smith’s with decades of playing time together, was added in spring of 2017. Things started to really move when Kleyh officially moved back to her hometown of Vernon, and
bass player Luke Kowalski was added to the line up in November, 2017.

Driven by vocal power and emotional delivery, you can hear the influence of singers like Jefferson Airplane’s Grace Slick, early Tina Turner, the ever inventive Cat Power, moody Nancy Sinatra, and the band’s namesake Mazzy Star. Instrumentally the band pulls from classics like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, The White Stripes and the ever-present Beatles. Gordon-Smith’s organic and atmospheric playing style takes Kleyh’s original acoustic compositions to new levels. Lyrically you will connect with Kleyh’s personal journey as an artist, trials in love, true friendships, and the struggles that come with trying to find your way back home. Instrumentally you will be transported to the lush landscapes of Western Canada by textured guitar that sparkles, a bassline you feel in your bones, and a drum beat to pound it all home. She Hangs Brightly is music you will experience with all of your senses.

She Hangs Brightly will be on the road in 2018, touring mostly Western Canada as well as recording their debut album at home in Vernon.

*APRIL 27th, FRI ~ GREEN ROOM ~  ~ SMOOTH JAZZ~ The group Green Room started in Salmon Arm in late 2015 as a vehicle for Peter Clark (guitars and bass)and Elaine Holmes (vocals, guitar, keyboards) to perform their unique adaptations of repertoire both familiar and exotic.
Along with a large number of traditional Jazz standards, they also regularly perform Latin music and surprising re-workings of folk and popular songs. That have performed more than 100 events in the Okanagan since they began.
Peter Lawren Clark has been a professional musician for the last 35 years, primarily as a solo performer.
In addition, he spent two decades as guitarist for the Canmore-based group “Suzie Q” and since the year 2000 with the Calgary based Celtic group “Seanachie”.
Since moving to Salmon Arm in 2007, Peter has performed frequently in local restaurants  and at public events. For the last five years, he has been the regular Friday-Saturday musician at Andiamo Italian Restaurant. In 2015, Peter released his solo album of original music “Landscape”.
Elaine Holmes has been active in the music scene for the past decade as a solo performer and in theatrical musicals. These include “Audrey” in “The Little Shop Of Horrors" and “Rosa” in “Funkin’ Dead”.
In 2015 she joined forces with Peter Clark in the duo “Green Room” and has greatly expanded  her repertoire for performance at many local venues. Elaine’s vocal power, range and adaptability has allowed her to move smoothly into this new application of her talents. In addition, Elaine is an art teacher in the Salmon Arm school system and a recognized visual artist in her own right.
In May of 2017, Green Room released their first album of original songs : Opportunity Knocked. The recording contains ten songs co-written by Peter and Elaine. It is a creative combining of Latin, Folk, Jazz and Pop influences with well-honed lyric content.
To broaden their “sonic palette” in live performance Peter and Elaine use a variety of contemporary technologies, but do not use backing tracks.
Elaine uses vocal looping to create harmonies and unique vocal textures as well as playing keyboard and guitar; Peter uses guitars, bass pedals,
drum loops, bass loops and other electronica to build a rich soundscape.

The songs that result from this perspective have been compared to those of other uniquely Canadian voices such as Gordon Lightfoot and Leonard Cohen.  His whiskey and cigarettes baritone, described in Nerve Magazine as, "one of those character voices that should almost be trademarked," places him in the company of such singers as Merle Haggard, The Handsome Family's Brent Sparks and Rufus Wainwright.

*MAY 23rd, WED ~ RED HAVEN ~ Swagger and Swing In Western Canadian folk festivals, weathered traditions of song-sharing and musical cross-pollination carry the ideals of folk music into the right-swiping, touch-typing, conversationally challenged future. It's there that Red Haven honed their craft. Drawing inspiration from jazz and soul but redesigning it with Indie-Pop songwriting and a heavy backbeat, Red Haven have been touring their raucous, spirited brand of folk for the past 4 years.
Featuring the work of songwriters Jen Charters, Nathan Turner, and Brendan Steele, Red Haven tells a story that is both entertaining and incisive. Each brings a unique flavour to the band: Charters, lightning-quick gypsy jazz saxophone and powerful blues vocals; Turner, uplifting songs with a country lilt from behind the upright bass; and Steele, dark and angular guitar lines to match cutting lyrics. Their creative chemistry got a injection of energy with the adoption of drummer Max Ley into the group, who brought prog-rock chops with just the right amount of swagger and swing.

Classic swing mixed with choice modern selections their set is fluid and smooth with an energy that is feel-good and soul driven.  They have been playing around the Okanagan together since 2016.
Darko came to Canada some 25 years ago from Croatia where he studied classical and jazz bass.  In Vancouver he furthered his Jazz education at the Cap College in the nineties and embarked on a professional career in '97.  Musical engagements took him touring around the world with cover bands or doing cruiseship contracts on Seabourn, Cunard and Norwegian cruise lines sailing around the world for nearly a decade before settling down in Calgary in 2005.  After making himself known in Kelowna he landed a 2nd bass position in the Okanagan Symphony and has been busy playing in variety of bands around the valley including Wood, Wire & Fire.

Denis completed a B. Music violin performance degree from U of A in Edmonton and at the same time began jazz violin work with the help of Tommy Banks in the early 70's.  He has performed with many jazz ensembles in the Okanagan from 1980 to the present and is currently focusing his attention on the jazz trio 'Wood, Wire & Fire'.  Denis has recently retired as the Concertmaster of the Okanagan Symphony, after 39 years, and during that time performed with many world class solo acts.  He also recorded a duo CD with pianist/composer Stu Goldberg in 2006, entitled 'Reinventions'.

Gil started his musical career playing in rock bands around Montreal as a teenager.  He then moved to Toronto to gain a degree in jazz performance from U of T.  In 2006 he released a self-titled album of original music which is an eclectic mix of pop, jazz and rock. In 2008 he earned a degree in music education from McGill University.  In 2012 Gill and his wife moved to Kelowna where he now teaches full-time as a music teacher at Rutland Senior Secondary.  As of late he is focused on playing jazz again and can be found in various groups around the Okanagan including 'Wood, Wire & Fire'.

*JULY 14th, SAT ~ BLACKBERRY WOOD ~  From the playing the biggest festivals in the world to hangin' in your back yard Blackberry Wood whisks you away to a wild crazy barn dance in the back of the carnival, with carnies and magical circus folk!!! A reputation for high-energy and unbelievably exciting dance floor shakin' shows  follows Blackberry Wood every stage they're on. When you spot them they'll be coming down the road looking like a travelling minstrel show, all dressed up to make ya smile inside!!!
Stuart Derdeyn, Vancouver Province

"High-powered acoustic dance music aptly describes the bohemian beat. It's a sound that works in clubs, parties, big festivals -- you name it."

Kevin Potvin, Republic of East Vancouver
"Gave me the impression of a big modern inner-city version of the traditional hoedown in the neighbours barn kind of night. I felt something like what I imagine farmers felt when they hung up their overalls for the week and hustled down to the crossroads for a little long-awaited good ol' jumping around to shake out all the kinks of field work"

Jeanie Keogh, BC Musician Magazine
"Fit to compete with the cast of Moulin Rouge with their zany costumes, Blackberry Wood seems ready to strike up a burlesque hoedown just about anywhere you plunk them down"

Clayton Brander, Director, Sunshine Music Festival
“Blackberry Wood’s energy was as amazing as it was infectious. Their wild costumes, fantastic music, and incredible stage presence got everyone in the audience up and dancing through their set – start to finish. Based on their reputation I expected a lot, and they definitely lived up to it.  I couldn’t be more pleased with having booked them.”

Shara Gustafson, Director, Robson Valley Music Festival
" Blackberry Wood' s frantic energy & love of the stage spread a contagious frenzy throughout our Saturday night festival audience! "

Eric Epstein, Artistic Director, Frostbite Music Festival
"When I first chanced upon Blackberry Wood playing at Café Deux Soleils in Vancouver, I felt like I had stumbled onto the Yukon party spirit, kicking it old-time on the west coast. I wanted to bring them to Frostbite at once, and I grabbed my first opportunity to do just that. They exceeded my expectations by existing as their own festival: a traveling band of gypsy-party musicians who bring the spirit of hokum to life with original tunes as well as with some brilliantly chosen, stunningly unexpected covers. *JULY 16th, MON ~ TEQUILA MOCKING BIRDS ~ The Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra are a collection of musicians, linked by common sonic journeys and familial ties. It doesn’t matter much how they got here, but rather that they are traveling with each other. Now they are here in the room with you, the way music in the folk tradition always is, to bring people together; to share real flesh, blood and feeling.
WE MAKE REALLY PARTY is a 5 song EP that returns to the old world sounds the band became known for in its early years.  With both original and reimagined roots and folk songs in English, Spanish and Italian WE MAKE REALLY PARTY captures the band playing live off the floor in a three day session after their 2016 summer tour.  It is a record that is refined in both playing and production while honouring the band's past musically.

TMO have spent years weaving their stories with guitars and violins, with accordions and bass, with melodies and music makers gleaned from their wanderings. Here are the troubadours to remind you that this music (no matter what kind of device it ends up on) could not exist without warm bodies in search of harmony.

*JULY 20th, FRI ~

A dad, his 2 sons and their 2 best friends - their goal is to continuously share the message of being fearless, free, and vulnerable - to 'step inside the ring' and to dare greatly. The message is simple, but the music is even more powerful than that. This 5 piece group gathers heavy influence from the 60's & 70's classic rock era - featuring real and perfected "blood harmonies", crunching guitar solos, that powerful B3 Organ sound, topped with steady and precise drumming dynamics.

-Peter Keys of Lynyrd Skynyrd
“I have had the pleasure of working with the guys from Daring Greatly. When I first met them in Nashville, and heard them play and sing in the studio, I was truly impressed. They have a sound and a chemistry together that is unique and inspiring.”

*JULY 27th, FRI ~ ALLAN GERBER ~ Blues, Folk, Jazz!  My story is one of good fortune, struggle and perseverance. Born in North America to a family who had fled the pogroms of Eastern Europe and settled in Chicago, the expectation was for me to grow up to be a businessman, doctor or lawyer, but my destiny lay elsewhere.

Alan Gerber is an American-born singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. He is a member of the recently reunited rock band Rhinoceros and also has been pursuing a solo career throughout the last 30 years. His style shows multiple influences (blues, folk, jazz), and he is especially known for his high-energy performances and light-hearted, humor-filled lyrics.
Alan Gerber was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, May 27, 1947.[1] In 1963, at age 15, he recorded his first '45 record for the label Earic.[2] He studied music at Roosevelt University but left before completing his degree, unhappy with the formal way music was presented and taught at the time.[2] At age 18, he moved to Los Angeles, California, where he was involved in the formation of the band Rhinoceros, in which he was a keyboardist, vocalist and primary songwriter.
He left Rhinoceros in 1969 and started his solo career shortly after that. His first album, "The Alan Gerber Album", was released in 1971. He subsequently moved to Canada and currently lives in Val-David, Quebec. He is a Canadian/American dual citizen. He was involved in a variety of projects throughout the late '70s and '80s, such as the Bob Dylan movie Renaldo and Clara, but did not record albums during this period. His productivity as a recording and performing artist has enjoyed a renewal since 1994 and the release of "Chicken walk".
He has composed, recorded, produced and released 5 more albums to date, including a live recording on which he played all the instruments. He is almost constantly touring in North America and Europe, sometimes joined by his son Eli and daughter Hannah, who also appear on his 2009 album "Queen of Hearts".[3] His live performances draw favourable reviews, with one commentator for instance stating that "You can tell he loves to be in front of an audience and truly whips them into a frenzy." (Holger Petersen, host of Saturday Night Blues on CBC).[4] He has participated in the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Ottawa Bluesfest, and the Carcassone (France) Music Festival, among many others. As of 2009, he was signed with the CashBox Records label.

"For the eleventh year in a row, Alan Gerber put on magical Father’s Day concert at the Rankin Gallery, accompanied by his enormously talented offspring, Eli and Hannah. Alan is the only performer we have back every year and there is a reason for this. His concerts are wildly popular – the man’s ability to entertain a sold out crowd with his killer piano playing, his huge expressive voice and his dynamic personality is truly amazing. We have already booked him for next year!" -Al and Brenda Rankin Inverary, Ontario

*AUG 16th, THURS ~ TERRY GILLESPIE ~ You really ought to meet Terry Gillespie.
An easy guy to hang with. He’ll probably play in your town sooner or later, so you can get into his music, shake his hand and let him sell you his new CD,
Home Boy.
He’s an unlikely guy for a musician, this Terry Gillespie.  For starters, he’s been Playing Blues-Based Roots Music Professionally for 50 Years.
And he’ll tell you that now is the time when all the years seem to add up to make a perfect equation: experience = smarts = the ability to play and sing better than ever.
Born in Canada, raised in the United States, he returned home in a hurry in the 60s when the possibility of being blown up in Vietnam seemed almost inevitable.
But by the time he came back to Canada, he’d already been infected, inspired and influenced by the blues. He had dug deep into the still- segregated world of the blues by smuggling himself into blues bars to hear — and later play with — Howling Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Muddy Waters and a youngster called Buddy Guy.
“I was 17 when I heard those guys, maybe 16. The drinking age was 21, but I was tall, and I’d wear shades and a sports coat and draw a skinny moustache on my upper lip.
“Once, a cop checked me out, asked whether I was drinking beer and I said I was. The whole joint fell silent to see what he’d do about it. ‘Get the kid a pop,’ he said, and let me stay. And the crowd applauded.”

Each winter Terry and his wife Kathy spend their winters in Jamaica, where that island’s distinctive music has added to his own eclectic sound.
He’s the “artist in residence” and Kathy is the reservation manager for a number of small rental cabins on an idyllic, uncrowded beachfront part of the island, and they have long become accepted in the local community in a way that tourists visiting the popular resort hotels simply can’t experience.
Playing daily with local musicians immersed him in a different musical community — in the same way that it had when he discovered the blues in his teen years and as it did in Ottawa playing rock and roll.

Having garnered critical acclaim with 4 Cds both as himself and with his former band Dogskin Suit, the music runs all the way from Memphis to Motown.
