FEB 20th, SATURDAY, 2016 ~ RAY LEMELIN ~  http://raylemelin.com/

“BROTHER” RAY LEMELIN
The love of music, dance and singing started early in Ray’s life as a child in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, through his mother’s taste for Rhythm and Blues. Ray was immediately drawn to the Soul sounds of vocal groups, notably ‘The Supremes’. “I love the groove and those big vocal sounds” confirms Lemelin. James Brown, Joe Tex and Wilson Pickett were other major influences. It was his migration to Calgary, Alberta in the late seventies that really opened up opportunities for Ray to pursue a career. Inspired by a quote from guitar legend Johnny Winter – “it should be the “older” black musicians we listen to”. Lemelin immersed himself in the recordings of Blues greats such as Muddy Waters, Slim Harpo and James Cotton.
The approach is simple. Sharp performances and professionalism. “If you put the Blues of B.B. King, the grooves of James Brown, and the Gospel vocal sounds of the Staple Singers”, states Lemelin, “and mix it all up, you have the ingredients for a Funky, ‘Soulful’ good time!”

The Decoys (Matt Stanley – guitar/vocals, Sean Poissant – drums and Brendan Methot – bass) are a Rock/Folk band based out of Kamloops, BC and influenced by the spirit of artists like Neil Young, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Led Zeppelin. Drummer Sean Poissant joined The Decoys in 2010 and one short month later they began recording their first full-length album. Co-produced by Henry Small, “Stripped, Bare, And On Display” was released in August 2011 with the singles “I Know” and “Modern Disaster” receiving airplay on many stations in Western Canada. The Decoys sophomore album “In Our Blood”, is slated for release this October and their latest singles “Don't Hesitate” and “The Underdog” have already created buzz for this much anticipated album. The band, who was joined in 2015 by bassist Brendan Methot, has been touring Western Canada nonstop.

*MAR 11th, FRI ~ I AM MACHIE ~ http://www.iammachi.com/
It's easy to not have much, when you love the sh** out of each other!
Since marrying in 2010 and starting the band in 2012, I Am Machi have been striving to create as much of a big rock band sound as they can while still maintaining minimalistic instrumentation.  Drums, guitars, various other loud noises, and each other are all these two best pals have in order to take on the day-to-day and its highs and lows (not including their a**hole cat, Phineas Oscar II, with whom they battle daily, of course).  Their live performance is fun and awkward.  "Fawkward,"  they call it.  It's a lot like watching Grandma swear at the neighbourhood kids, now with 100% less racism!  With Nathan on guitars, Jileane on drums, and both sharing vocal duties (hee-hee, duty!), I Am Machi strives to find beauty in desolate places.  They write songs about their own valley floors and mountain tops in the hopes that others will empathize and find it uplifting, inspiring, or just have a rootin' tootin' good time.  They work hard doing what they love.

*APR 1st, FRI ~ APRIL FOOLS DAY ~ BRIAN STOLLERY ~Opening for Brian will be:  Matt Foster
Very Funny Comedians http://www.stollerylive.com/   http://www.brianstollery.com/
Brian Stollery rarely waits more than a heartbeat before inviting his audiences to have a laugh at his expense. Observational, autobiographical and hilariously self-deprecating, Brian Stollery’s brand of comedy reveals the underlying absurdity of everyday life in a way that’s as scathingly honest as it is fast paced and energetic.
Stollery has performed on CBC radio's "The Debaters" and festivals including the 'CBC Winnipeg Comedy Festival' and 'Global Comedyfest' in Vancouver and he won
SiriusXM Radio’s ‘Canada’s Top Comic!’
Brian's latest album “For Brian Out Loud” made the "Top 10 List for 2015" on The Serious Comedy Site and is an Editor's Pick on CD Baby.

Opening for Brian will be:  Matt Foster
In yet another case of professional drummer turned comedian, Matt Foster has thrown down his sticks to take up the call of the microphone, giving ‘drummer jokes’ a whole new meaning.  With his hilarious observations, clever writing, and anecdotes embarrassing enough to make a stone squirm, Matt never fails to entertain.

*APR 2nd, SAT ~ MATTHEW HORNELL ~Bluegrass and Celtic music http://www.matthewhornell.com/
Nominated for "Male Artist of the Year"  in Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, and East Coast Music Award "Rising Star".  Also I won 4 Music Newfoundland awards including  Newfoundland's "Entertainer of Year".

Matthew Hornell is a gifted singer/songwriter, aware that the muse often directs the master.  Ideas and emotions both personal and universal are channeled throughout “Have It All” his sophomore, soulful folk album.Accompanied by an amazing group of musicians and gorgeous, soothing female backing vocals, Have It All is a record of spiritual awakening.
Matthew Hornell deservedly won a plethora of MIANL. Awards for his CD debut. Clearly upon a few listens you realize Hornell has the key ‘chops’ as a singer/songwriter. The lyrical content is diverse, arrangements succinct and vocal delivery unquestionably honest. You can usually tell when a songwriter is being clever or cute, going for a pretty shot. But Matthew Hornell wears his authenticity like a badge of honor.

The thing that hits you immediately upon watching him perform is the sheer jubilation he possesses and exudes to his audience. That unmistakable joy is absolutely genuine.

Longtime friends and past collaborators, the members of Zoo Riots formed in 2012 with a shared passion for creating their own provocative, hard hitting, and unique style of music. Intricate two-part vocal and guitar harmonies; dynamic bass lines; and thundering dual percussion are features of the group's constantly evolving sound. *APR 14th, THURS ~ PAUL COLLINS BEAT ~ http://www.thepaulcollinsbeat.com/index.html
Rock icon and cult favorite Paul Collins got his start with Peter Case and Jack Lee in 1974. Their band The Nerves toured with The Ramones and recorded a song called “Hanging On The Telephone.” The song would later become a hit when covered by Deborah Harry and Blondie on the Parallel Lines album.
Paul Collins formed The Beat in 1979, recruiting members of various rock bands including Steven Huff, Larry Whitman and Michael Ruiz. The result was The Beat, a high energy rock group in the style of The Ramones, Blondie and The Dictators. As the story goes, Collins was awarded a record deal with CBS thanks to his friend Eddie Money and Bill Graham Management. The Beat toured extensively with top acts like The Jam, Pere Ubu, The Police, Eddie Money, The Plimsouls and Huey Lewis. The Beat became Paul Collins’ Beat when a ska band from UK began using The Beat as their moniker.
Paul Collins – King Of Power Pop – Alive – ALIVE0110-2 - **** London Sunday Times by Stuart Lee
Nobody told Paul Collins guitars were over. Thirty-five years into his career, the former songwriter of The Nerves re-embraces that skinny tie and white sneakers Seventies punk pop sound, and you are duty bound to fall in love with his latest album. King Of Power Pop is precision-engineered to embed itself into your subconscious, each song a terrible psychic hookworm, with harmonies, lead breaks and key changes falling perfectly into place at the most emotionally manipulative of moments. You’ll have the stand-out track, Losing Your Cool, on permanent repeat, like a rat wired to a sugar dispenser. Covers of The Box Tops and The Flamin’ Groovies seal the deal.

*APR 16th, SAT ~ POPPA DAWG ~ http://www.poppadawg.com/
COMING BACK TO DIG UP THE YARD AND PLAY SOME LOFTY GUITAR  AND EARTH SHAKING VOCALS!
Hailing from the 'Left Coast' of Canada, Rick ‘Poppa Dawg’ Halisheff and his band present the blues with a unique, tongue-in-cheek view and a deep and respectful appreciation of the music. The band's sound moves from the slinky grooves of New Orleans to the down and dirty rawness of Chicago and all points in-between! Gritty and dynamic, they take the music from rushing peaks to hushing lows and then Poppa Dawg steps back from the mic to spread the news!
In 2013, the band were semi-finalists at the International Blues Challenge
in Memphis and won over an entire new audience with their original tunes,
re-affirming their faith in the music that means so much to them. The trip
opened new doors and new opportunities including being recommended by
the Powder Blues’ own Tom Lavin for a slot at the 2013 Calgary International Blues Festival.
With 4 albums now released, the latest CD, ‘What You Got’, features the
great Canadian blues guitarist JW Jones on the track ‘Dub Step’ as well as
a variety of original tunes including one penned by friend Brandon ‘Yukon
Slim’ Isaak. The disc runs from gritty and soulful to deep and nasty and
features the use of Poppa Dawg‘s trademark talkbox. It is still receiving
airplay around the world as well as being featured on Saturday Night Blues
on CBC, Galaxie and thorughout the US and Europe.

Power, style, tone, feel, and ENERGY are the ingredients that make
Poppa Dawg a force to be reckoned with.
- JW-Jones
What a great surprise to discover Poppa Dawg at the Calgary Blues
Festival. Being a somewhat over-stimulated guy from Toronto, I didn't
think you could find this much solid power west of the Big Smoke. How
nice to be proved wrong! As the old jazzers used to say, solid, man!
- Richard Flohill
Halisheff's voice is strong, with a whiskey-soaked edge, and as a
songwriter, he tackles interesting subjects with a humorous,
tongue-in-cheek style, while his guitar work is focused and to-the-point.
- Craig Ruskey, MN Blues

*APR 29th, FRI ~ THE GRANT FAMILY & FRIENDS ~
with an amazing selection & variation of Jazz Classics and Funk!  You will be impressed!
The Grant Family & Friends.
Spending an evening with The Grant Family & Friends is more than just hearing a band. It is a musical experience unlike anything else!
About once per year this family of drummers take time from touring and recording to converge for a performance.
Additional musicians are recruited from their extensive circle of musical friends. A basic theme and song list are discussed by the siblings, but no rehearsal is allowed, so most of what happens is improvised and instinctive.
There are of course certain elements of the show that reappear each year. Each set of material features drums and percussion in some manner, and of course if the “Drum Battle” featuring the 3 Grant brothers occurs, it is always a crowd favourite. Interactive segments with the audience, and special guest appearances are common. They always have a surprise or two up their sleeves, so be ready for anything!
This particular show will be the first since the passing of Doug Grant Sr, and the Family is looking forward to doing “Pops” proud. Doug Sr. was a drumming force for many years, and the Family will showcase the many styles of music he performed, including Jazz, Blues, Country, and Rock.
Doug Jr, Carolyn, Ian, and Robert are joined by terrific musicians and great friends- Rob Moore (guitar/vocals), Steve Soucy (keys/vocals), Craig Thomson (sax), and Brian McMahon (bass).
Be ready for a memorable evening of music, dancing, drumming, and fun!

*APR 30th, SAT ~ COREY PRIMUS ~ http://www.coreyprimus.com/  One way or another we all have a story. Some just live their stories quietly to themselves. Othershave their stories told through books and movies. Corey tells his story through his songs. Not all of them are directly autobiographical. Some of them are close to that.

He was born in Leroy Saskatchewan and now resides in Vancouver but much of the fodder for his song crafting came from being raised in BC’s northern interior. On his first album, Directions in a Foreign Tongue, his standout song “You’re Too Far Away” tells about his musical relationship with his older brother referencing “a crossroads mill town” and “you live your life in a cold little northern town.”  But many of them just take pieces of the story and turn them into something more entertaining. “Never Again” tells the tongue-in-cheek story of passive aggressive Johnny whose lover beats him to the “punch” line he has been toying with. "Unsaid" a later single cryptically tells about his enduring love.

Corey continues to create a wide variety of music encompassing Folk/Acoustic/Contemporary/Blues/Rock/Pop. His whole life has been playing and sharing his songs. It is all a part of the journey, all a part of the story. And  there is still more to tell.

*MAY 7th, SAT ~ KRIS SCHULTZ ~ http://www.krisschulz.ca/home/  I've been lucky enough to have music in my life from the day I was born.
It seems almost everyone in my family plays music but it is my father Manfred who has always been my biggest inspiration. He taught me to use my ears at a very young age and gave me all the tools I needed to learn the language of music my own way.
Over the years I've sang, played piano, drums, and sax; but it's the guitar that grabbed my heart and changed my life.
At times I'm a student, indulging in countless hours of devoted study to my craft.
At times I'm a teacher, always happy to share my knowledge and passion with anyone who inquires.
And at times, when I'm centred and focused, the real music begins and all the meaningless noise disappears and is replaced by the stillness of truth.
My song can be ferocious, full of power and confidence, or it can be insecure and speak from a place of doubt.
It can be inspired by those around me or come from a deep isolation within.
It is a song that reminds me of how human I am in all my accomplishments and failures and I am forever grateful to play it.
Like many, music helps me to convey emotions I can't put into words and I'm fascinated by its universal language and ability to communicate that which cannot be said.
What I do is simple, I strive play the sounds I hear in my hear in my head, nothing more, nothing less,I have no better understanding of the process than that.
There are many styles and disciplines of music I study and follow but in the end, it's all just music. And while I subscribe to rigorous training and musical intellect at times, it's the sense of total freedom I crave when the notes play themselves and I am merely their conductor.
In 2014 I competed in the Canadian Fingerstyle Competiton and finished 4th place - The CGF is a world renowned acoustic event that sees players from all over the globe compete on the merit of their own compositions. The performances are played to a "blind" panel of judges made up of some of the worlds most respected acoustic players.

*MAY 13th, FRI ~ PAPA KING  and the Boogie Man ~ https://vimeo.com/30195820  http://www.papakingcole.com/ Blues, Boogie and the feel of old time Rock & Roll!
This performance based duo have been musical partners
and best friends for over 25 years. The energy that fills the
room when these two plug in and turn on can be compared to
a hot Friday night in Chicago in the 1960’s or a stroll down
Beale Street in Memphis in the 1930’s at the height of the
Blues and Boogie era.
The passion that they bring to every show is a delicious
feast that has been simmering on the back burner since they
met and is ready to serve up to everyone in the house.
As a special treat there will be a sweet and full taste of
their music served up on a thin disk during breaks and after
the show.
All you have to do is choose to be there, bring your thirsty
ears and your dancing shoes.
Born to play the Blues

*MAY 14th, SAT ~ ROAD TRIP BOOGIE ~ http://www.roadtripboogie.com/  Folk, Latin, Blues & Worldbeat music that will take you on an extraordinary musical adventure !
Road Trip Boogie was born in Nova Scotia, Canada from an afternoon jam session which was the beginning of a songwriting extravaganza.  Pam & Liz knew they were on to something good when folks commented about the uplifting, enthusiastic energy they brought to the stage with their ability to engage their audiences.  It all began with  Brazil, a song which introduced Liz’s accordion to the band. Brazil tells a story of a love gone wrong and has become a hit
with Road Trip Boogie fans. Since writing their first hit, they have collaborated on an abundance of original songs .... some completed, some recorded, some still little bits of ideas scribbled on torn scraps of paper, napkins or whatever
else is handy at the time. These glimpses of ideas are based on their lives and experiences on the road.
Pam Paton  - guitar & vocals
Pam is thrilled to be playing guitar and singing with Road Trip Boogie. It very well may be the most rewarding endeavor
since she was captured by the world of creating & performing music! Her career as a musician has spanned several decades
touring, recording and performing all over North America most notably as the drummer with celtic rockers Rawlins Cross
from Newfoundland and as marimba player & singer/songwriter with Celtika and Marimba Stew.

Liz Powers  - accordion, harmonicas, melodica & vocals
Liz just recently caught the music bug after participating in an all women's garage band facilitated by Pam.   Liz, a somewhat
subdued gal with a quiet demeanor on stage can surprise her audiences! For example, when she belts out “Oh this Puppy Love
It’s got a hold on me!” in their fast paced blues song Jibber Jaggin based on a high energy Labradoodle!
Together
Their vocal harmonies, upbeat & engaging personalities, songwriting expertise and creative interpretation of obscure
cover tunes intrigue audiences.  Pam brings the rhythmic drive to the duo’s sound along with her experience crafting and
arranging songs that illustrate her originality and musical proficiency. Liz adds the melodic aspect of the duo’s sound
with her heartfelt accordion, melodica and harmonicas that illustrate her artistry and enthusiasm for music.
Their spontaneous banter & storytelling resonates with their audiences as they connect and share their dynamic kinship.

*JUNE 8th, WED ~ SHIELDS JOHNSTON FIELDINGS TRIO ~ http://www.shieldsjohnstonfielding.com/ Shields Johnston Fielding started as an all-star kitchen jam in 2008 that has evolved into a polished original outfit. Pushing the boundaries of traditional jazz composition through an exploratory approach, the trio's sound pulls listeners into lush, smoky ballads, driving grooves, and soaring melodies. SJF draws on influences as diverse as Brazilian folk music, Stravinsky, Bach and the music of West Africa.  The players share a deep commitment to a warm and intimate sound. Audiences become acutely aware of their joy and camaraderie during live performances.
SJF's musical journey  is documented on their three CDs. Their latest, soon to be released, album reveals their interest in Brazilian , American Folk, and West African musical traditions. Their 2010 release "Bits and Pieces" included two horns and voice and reveals inspiration from the Classical tradition, from Bach to Bartok , as well as drawing many interesting rhythmic aspects of world music  traditions. Their inaugural 2010 release "A Road Forgotten" has the trio exploring the potential of the contemporary guitar trio, one in which the textures of acoustic and  electric instruments, and soundscape effects are explored with great success.

*JUNE 10th, FRI ~ BAT ~  https://sites.google.com/site/wheresbat/home   Amazing. Phenomenal. Unbelievable. These are the adjectives most commonly used to describe the Singer/Guitarist from  New Mexico, whether they are talking about his voice, or his guitar playing. Now in his fourth year as a Solo Performer on   the National stage, Bat leaves quite an impression wherever he plays.
Bat grew up in Zion, IL, a little town North of Chicago on Lake Michigan’s shore where Illinois becomes Wisconsin. His brother Steve and he started playing bluegrass tunes on banjo & guitar when Bat was eight years old. Singing around the campfire & entertaining at family parties was a typical occurrence for the boys.
The family moved to New Mexico around the time Bat was in High School, and meeting other musicians with largely different styles gave him a whole new world of influences to practice on and draw from. A musical sponge, Bat soaked up every note of these new sounds and began applying them to his music. Bat wrote his first compositions as a teenager, one of which, ‘Playground’ has been recognized Internationally and is currently used in rotation on Jazz radio stations in the USA.
In addition to guitar & banjo, Bat learned to play drums, piano, and bass. After high school he easily found enough work as a Bassist and Keyboard player to keep him employed for the next 20 years.
He spent a period of time hitchhiking across the US and ultimately landed in San Francisco, where he began polishing his amazing ability to cover almost anything from the Rock, Folk, Country, Soul, Metal and Oldies catalogues, playing on the wharf there for tourist tips.

*JUNE 17th, FRI ~ POPPA DAWG ~ http://www.poppadawg.com/

In 2007 she won Female Songwriter of the year. Her album “Sweet Embrace” also took home producer (Pat Coleman) and Engineer (Rick Salt) of the year.

“Andrea has wonderful instincts for crafting a great song – and the voice and the authentic spirit to deliver it in a way that is utterly captivating and delightful. I loved her.”  Shari Ulrich

“Andrea Smith has a voice that goes down like freshly pulled honey from the hive. Just enough sweetness mixed with a little sting. Her songs provide a great vehicle for her voice and this ride will take you from where you’ve been , to where you wish you could be. Four bees out of five.”  Mae Moore

*JUNE 25th, SAT ~ JACK GARTON ~ https://jackgarton.com/ Steeped in the solitude of the mountains and islands of the Pacific Northwest, raised in the boisterous and irreverent East Vancouver arts community, Jack Garton’s music is a dance party for the vulnerable at heart. In the lineage of Weird and Wonderful Canadian songwriters Leonard Cohen, k.d.Lang, Corb Lund and Geoff Berner, Garton’s songs alchemize brokenness and pride, and celebrate the sheer “absurd difficulty of being alive” (Geoff Berner) with wit and grace. Over the last ten years while touring Canada, the USA and Europe, Garton has developed a distinctive voice on the accordion, mixing cajun, european and country styles with ease into an exciting roots music feast. Whether backed by his powerful band the Demon Squadron or solo, armed with an accordion and trumpet, his shows are theatrical, fluid, confessional, and fun. They reflect a lifetime of devotion to the art of live music as well as an impressive breadth of life experience including his roles as a father and husband, local gravedigger, theatre artist and music teacher.
Garton’s upcoming release “Move the Mess Around” is a manual for living with commitment, set to a roots roller-coaster soundtrack courtesy of his loyal band the Demon Squadron.
“The sound is punchy and bright, with the instruments perfectly
coordinated.” -Tony Montague, Georgia Straight
“Jack Garton will save the accordion” – Trevor Nichols, Jasper Fitzhugh
“This is a really catchy, well-written singer/songwriter/accordion record. The musicianship is solid, it’s well recorded. Clever rhymes, an overall point of view about just the absurd difficulty of being alive. I like it a lot.” –Geoff Berner

Crack songwriting, brilliant and warped arrangements and stunning instrumental solos unite under the banner of a savvy eclecticism that's always been the band's guiding light. The Wheat in the Barley pulls together a lot of great influences into one package: Celtic, Slavic, French Canadian, Yiddish, Cajun and more. With an impressive array of instruments at their command, the band puts on a show that's as danceable as it is listenable.

"What an incredible group! What does a guy have to do to follow an act like that — set his beard on fire??"
Valdy - Panorama Music Fest 2005

"The Wheat In The Barley blend their many musical grains into a very hearty meal indeed. *JULY 6th, WED ~  THE WEBER BROTHERS ~ www.weberbrothers.com  There are bands for which rock and roll is a lifestyle, and then there are bands for which it is life.

To many, The Weber Brothers are the baddest band in the land.To many others, their story sits like an ancient volume in an old bookstore, dust covered, tucked away behind hundreds of newer, shinier books. Untouched. Waiting to be discovered. Regardless of what side you’re on, there’s an undeniable truth. In the rough and tumble world of rock and roll, The Weber Brothers have been around the block.

Ryan and Sam Weber left their Baltimore, MD home one night as teenagers, with the aim of meeting their idol, rockabilly legend Ronnie Hawkins, and ten hours later showed up at his doorstep. “The Hawk”, the elder statesman of rock whose former protégés (Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Levon Helm, et al.) went on to reshape music history as “The Band”, was duly impressed by the pair’s immense raw talent, and promptly invited them to audition for his storied backing band, The Hawks. Mere months later, after surviving the intense musical apprenticeship of his fabled “Rock ‘n’ Roll Bootcamp,” they were in: full-blooded Hawks. By the ages of 18 and 21 they had already performed alongside Kris Kristofferson, Levon Helm, Garth Hudson, Jeff Healey and David Wilcox to name a few.

Over the past 15 years they’ve recorded 10 independent albums and toured extensively throughout the U.S., Canada and Europe. These days they are joined onstage by “The Browne Sound”, young hot-shot drummer Marcus Browne and his multi-instrumentalist brother Rico Browne, alongside extraordinary guitarist Emily Burgess and 3-time Canadian National Poetry Slam Champion, Prufrock Shadowrunner, creating a group dynamic that is as unique as it is powerful.

In October 2012 the brothers were invited to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame American Music Masters Tribute to Chuck Berry in Cleveland where they shared the stage with Merle Haggard, Lemmy Kilmister, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, Rick Derringer, Joe Bonamassa, Earl Slick, Steve Jordan and the father of Rock and Roll himself, Chuck Berry.

Between their renowned musical ability, high-energy, awe-inspiring performances and lessons learned first hand from rock n’ roll pioneers, a reputation as the “baddest band in the land”, “heroes of this generation” and “the future in the big shoes of the past” now precedes them.

“If it’s looked at as a passing of the torch or a keeping of the flame, then we’re the guys to do it,” says Ryan Weber.

*JULY 15th, FRI ~ PATRICK ALEXANDRE ~ http://patrickalexandremusic.com/  Following his recent successes with Little Miss Higgins, and long time bandmates, the F-Holes, multi-instrumentalist/producer/song-writer Patrick Alexandre found himself once again hard at work.  This time, instead of turning a bison ranch barn into a recording space, Alexandre chose a century old house in the heart of Wolseley near his Winnipeg home, to frame his newest creation.
Inspired by old world practices, and new world problems, The album, "Strange New World", was recorded entirely on an 8 track reel to reel 1/2" tape machine.  Acting as engineer, performer, writer, producer, and custodial staff; Patrick brought to life a passion project that roots itself in the blues.
-"It was kind of like trying to explain technology in Latin.  You end up having to use more "human" language than we're used to using when dealing with that stuff.  It puts it into perspective somehow..." explains Alexandre.  He goes on to liken the analog recording process to horseback ridding :"Automobiles didn't make horses obsolete... Just because they're faster, it doesn't make it a better, or more enjoyable ride.  I don't believe digital recording will completely replace analog..."  The feel throughout this album is true, and it presents a sense of honesty that is sought after by all roots music purists.

With hip hop verses to empower the people, bold harmonies, and creative use of loop pedals, The OM Sound sounds more like a glitch-hop orchestra than a three piece band. Their electro-influenced beat box and synth bass grooves, shredding keyboards, and crunchy guitar licks inspire all as soon as the beats drop.

The OM Sound released their debut album, The Tipping Point, recorded in Melbourne, in 2012. The album was the foundation for their current sound as they strove to bring the electronic hip-hop grooves to life with organic instruments. They are currently in the studio recording their second album, which focuses on new, previously unrecorded R&B and jazz grooves.

Blue Moon Marquee is a Gypsy Blues band that stem from the wild rose foothills of Alberta. A.W. Cardinal (vocals/guitar) and Jasmine Colette a.k.a. Bandlands Jass (vocals, bass, drums)  write and perform original compositions influenced by anything that swings, jumps or grooves. Artists such as Lonnie Johnson, louis Armstrong, Blind Willie Jonson, Charley Patton, Howlin' Wolf, Bill Jennings, Big Bill Broonzy, Tom Waits, Memphis Minnie, & Django Riendhart to name a few.
There are two ways a band can be considered “good.” They can either be great at what they do (read: a particular genre, like chamber folk or psychedelic rock) or they can be a band that wholly reinvents the way music should sound like. While the former is often not as interesting to hear, one of the exceptions to this maxim is Blue Moon Marquee, formerly AW Cardinal.  Alberta ‘gypsy blues’ duo Blue Moon Marquee recently released their second album entitled Lonesome Ghosts. Previously recording under the A.W. Cardinal banner, the duo is comprised of Cardinal (guitar and lead vocals) and Jasmine Colette, who handles bass and drums.

*AUG 19th, FRI ~ MUD BAY BLUES BAND ~with special guest  DEAN GORDON SMITH ~ http://mudbayblues.com/wp/
Dean Gordon-Smith - Vernon Morning Star
The veteran five-piece Vancouver blues rock group, Mud Bay Blues Band’s new album, Colebrook Road is a rough hewn gem of gritty hybrid music.

The band’s sound is blues based, but they take it in interesting directions. The longevity of the group’s nearly 40-year stretch of unabashed rocking gives their music confidence and humour. This elasticity allows them to play fast and loose within their blues roots and they work it to the limit. They’re a band that sounds like they like playing together and it gives the songs on Colebrook Road a raucous kind of joy.

Led by singer and harpist Mud Bay Slim (King of the Mud Bay Delta Blues), the Mud Bay Blues Band aren’t purists of any sort and Colebrook Road amplifies their ballsy aesthetic. The production (aided by Victor Guideron and Jamie Sitar) preserves the interplay and casual irreverence of the band.  It captures how they listen to each other, making the songs sound boisterous and relaxed.

There are several songwriters within the group but their styles differ just enough to add contrast. They know blues and rock vocabulary and also how to get weird with it.

That’s where the charm of the band emerges - you know that they’d be a hell of a party group!

The album gets more adventurous as it goes on. They write their lyrics on the tongue-in-cheek side of cliché and that’s part of the appeal of the music. Although the group brings on some guests, they serve the song – no showboating. The music has a naughty edge (Hellbent, Pins) that also reveals a well-oiled machine that suffers no wankers. Or maybe it kicks them in the butt.

By the time the title cut rolls in, the Mud Bay Blues Band grooves on in a uniquely unhinged way. Clearly, these crunchy West Coast blues rockers don’t let their tightness impede their inclinations to get down. It’s a new way to hear the blues, baby.

*AUG 20th, FRI ~POPPA DAWG ~ http://www.poppadawg.com/

*AUG 25th, THURS ~ DANNY BROOKS & LIL MISS DEBI ~ http://www.dannybrooksmusic.com/
Danny Brooks 'Texassippi Soul Man', now settled in Llano Texas has mixed the best of both Texas and Mississippi and calls it 'Texassippi'. He grew up on Hank Williams, Solomon Burke, Taj Mahal, John Lee Hooker and the Allman Brothers, Blind Boys of Alabama, and Rev. Jumpin' Jim Jericho. Older brother Greg's recordings of Solomon Burke, Joe Tex, Bobby Blue Bland and Sam Cooke added to the blend.

Years ago I had the privilege of singing one night with Brownie McGhee and he told me "Son 'fo a white boy, you sho' 'nuff have a suntan on the inside". Several years back after my 7th cd, Mitch Lopate introduced me to Johnny Sandlin, legendary Capricorn Records producer, who brought me down to Decatur Alabama to record 'No Easy Way Out' with the Muscle Shoals musicians...David Hood, Spooner Oldham, Scott Boyer, Kelvin Holly, Bill Stewart, Bonnie Bramlett, Kevin McKendree, James Pennebaker, The Muscle Shoals Horns and rounding it out with Carla Russell and Tina Swindell. It was a thrilling experience and a highlight in my career. It is especially sweet as I have been given a new lease on life and my music reflects the conflict/resolution of life lived hard and fast and been given another chance to make something of it.

Life is precious and we need to make the best of what we have left of it!

'Listening to Danny Brooks is like driving out of Memphis, TN on a sunny Saturday morning into the Mississippi Delta listening to WDIA. It's one of those things where time stands still. A dash of Eddie Hinton, Solomon Burke, Rev. James Cleveland and Howlin' Wolf are all ingredients in Danny's soulful musical stew'. states Greg Martin of the Kentucky Headhunters. Maybe Greg Quill, noted musician and arts writer for the Toronto Star, sums it up the best: 'This is Roots music of great distinction.'

*SEPT 18th, SUN ~ TOM SAVAGE ~ http://www.tomsavage.ca/ Tom Savage is what one might refer to as a triple-threat. One part truth-telling troubadour, one part death-defying guitar slinger, and one part Country Blues howler. Each facet of his formidable on-stage persona carefully crafted over a 20+ year devotion to the composition and performance of song. Tom is a true believer. A disciple of melody and harmony and tempo and timbre. An evangelist preaching to anyone who will listen of the healing and meditative powers of music. Pouring his heart out of his throat every night, while simultaneously shredding his fingertips in his relentless assault on the beat-up 1966 Guild acoustic he adores.
Tom Savage's music comes from places occupied by Townes Van Zandt and Bruce Springsteen, but also lurking in the shadows of influence are Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page in one corner, and Wes Montgomery and Freddie Robinson in another.
A writer of Country and Folk songs, sung in a weathered, emotive voice with a hint of a Bluesman's growl, accompanied by fiery and fast rock n roll guitar licks.

*SEPT 30th, FRI ~ AARON GORDON ~ http://www.aarongordonmusic.com/ Aaron Gordon is a highly engaged individual who wears many hats in many different areas of life. An athlete, an honors student, a nurse, and within the music industry there is not an area of the biz he has not explored. But where his true identity can be found is within his music. This silver tounged poet combines the stories found in folk music with aspects of pop, rock and contemporary vibes to create the music he wants to listen to; something he feels all artists should strive for.
The Canadian-based singer/songwriter has honed his craft over the years exploring many areas of the musical world. Beginning with jazz drums in high school, music captivated him into the pursuit of many instrumental disciplines and musical genres across the board. The results come in the form of opportunity. From winning local talent competitions to competing at the national level in C.A.F.E.'s National Youth Talent Search, and touring with Nine Inch Nails drummer Chris Vrenna, Aaron continues to seek out opportunity wherever it arises.
This artist is in it for the long haul. His love for music tore him away from both medical and athletic careers and continues to drive him forward; only looking back to find old influences for new songs. This is one artist whos determination and tenacity can take him anywhere he wants to go.

Shufflin’ The Blues, released on September 23/16  is the 4th recording but only the 3rd official release from this duo. Their previous release, 1929: The Summit Sessions drew rave reviews and won best acoustic blues album categories in 2012. A review from Blues In Britain magazine,  by Morgan Hogarth, stated: “Such is the quality of the original songs, that you could be forgiven for thinking that old classics had been unearthed”.
By plugging their instruments in and adding a percussionist, the sound of the duo leans more towards that of the West side Chicago blues trio’s of the early 60’s (Otis Rush, Magic Sam and Freddie King). Recorded LIVE in front of an intimate audience, the result is a 9 song tour de’ force that pays tribute to Chicago blues, Delta blues and home style, original blues.
Holly Hyatt and Jon Burden are based out of southern British Columbia, Canada and work as an acoustic duo or electric trio. They have played on shows with Harry Manx, David Gogo, Paul Reddick, Jeff Healey, Colin James, Jim Byrnes, Ruthie Forster, Sonny Rhodes, Rita Chiarelli and Leon Russell.
